You can now renew your car licence disc at one of South Africa’s major retailers – here’s how
Are you tired of heading to the Post Office or the Traffic Department to renew your vehicle licence disc only to find out that card payments are not accepted? Or you do not have enough cash, or the worst scenario of all, be met with the famous South African “We are offline!” line after queueing for long hours? Well, one of South Africa’s major retailers, Pick ‘n Pay (PnP), has pulled through with a breakthrough for motor vehicle owners.
PnP has swooped in to save the day by launching a national vehicle licence disc-renewal service.
The service, first trialled in early January, will allow customers to renew their licence disc in over 500 stores owned by the retail group at a fee of R250. The company plans to roll out the service to all its other outlets (Liquor and Clothing) soon, too.
According to PnP’s website, their system will allow customers to skip queues at traffic departments and post offices by setting up a profile and paying in-store at a till point. The retail group also revealed that renewals can be done for all areas in South Africa and their system will also allow customers to pay any outstanding fines that could be blocking a disc renewal in the same payment.
Much as the Kelston Motor Group embodies customer-centricity, PnP’s new service offering aims to make South African motorists' lives easy. Customers who use this service will receive their vehicle licence disc via courier within 10 business days, delivered to an address of their choice.
How It Works
Step 1: Register with your cellphone number at the till in-store or register on PnP’s website here.
Step 2: Set up your profile and your payment on the portal and opt to pay in a PnP store.
Step 3: Pay in-store at the till by providing your cellphone number as your payment reference, and the group will courier your vehicle licence disc in 10 business days.
How to Set Up a Profile
Once on the PnP Vehicle Licence Disc Online Renewal Portal, customers will need to provide their details and set up a password to complete their profile. Once your profile has been set up, you can update the dashboard of the portal by adding the details of your vehicle(s) and uploading the following required documents:
- A clear image of ID document or card
- A copy of your existing vehicle licence disc
- Proof of residence
Once registered, you will also receive renewal notifications before your disc expires via your chosen communication preference that you’ve selected on the portal.
